I created this lesson with one goal in mind - to make systems of linear equations real. With these real life examples playing out in a candy store, solving systems with elimination and substitution has never made more sense. This lesson will take you approximately 2 hours, but the lessons learned will last well beyond this class time. Each problem walks the students through a specific type of linear system. Students get the chance to think critically while finding the price of certain candy items. Combine this with using an online graphing calculator (i.e. desmos.com) and your students will make the connections you are looking for them to make. If you can find a video of someone making candy, this will help draw the students in to the lesson. Explanations are given for the teacher to use. I know your students will enjoy this lesson.
