"Dear Willie Rudd" is a wonderful read-aloud that can be integrated with a Civil Rights Unit in Social Studies or can stand alone in English Language Arts. This book can be integrated with lessons on letter-writing, inferring, imagery, voice, and poems of apology.
My students have created beautiful letters to family members after reading this book. After editing, revising, and publishing, we scrolled the letters in a piece of colored cardstock, tied them with ribbon, and presented them to family members as meaningful and memorable gifts!
This is also a fantastic activity to leave for a substitute teacher!
This 14-page product includes:
-A Graphic Organizer to help students capture their critical thinking
-A Letter-Writing Assignment
-9 Poems of Apology
-A Poetry-Writing Assignment
is built into this lesson in the form of a scaffolded graphic organizier and writing checklist. This lesson also integrates 6+1 Trait Writing beautifully!
