This 12-page document is a very simple activity to get the play, Death of a Salesman, started. Students are working through the first 15 pages (Penguin Classics edition) of the play, reading and tagging evidence of characterization of the four main characters. Students are given directions to listen to a reading of particular pages and tag as they go, then transferring their tags to notes on a graphic organizer. I have included at not cost a simple article that describes hashtags and some notes on how to write them for this particular lesson, and then students will develop hashtags for their characters. The document also includes poster materials for a bulletin board, and a sample look at a completed activity bulletin board. Such a great activity for an open house or parent-teacher conference, not to mention reaching upper levels of literary analysis, discussing word choice and vocabulary, and getting the students focused on the character developed from the very first page of the play. Your students will enjoy it!
