Key takeaways for a lesson on Deborah and Barak: Deborah was a judge of Israel and prophetess of God. She told Barak to go fight Sisera and that God would give Barak victory. However, Barak said he would only go fight if Deborah went with him. Because of his doubt, the victory would be credited to a woman. What can we learn from this? God is always sure of His plans and we can always trust Him.
Kids will read the story of Deborah and Barak in Judges 4 – 5 and then answer multiple choice questions regarding what they read. (The teacher may choose to summarize the story of Deborah and Barak or read it from a children’s storybook Bible before completing this lapbook.)
Use this Deborah and Barak lapbook to teach students about Deborah, the only female Judge of Israel. Deborah was also a prophetess, and she often settled disputes among the Israeli people while she sat under a Palm Tree in the hill country of Ephraim. One day she told Barak that the Lord has commanded him to take his army to defeat Israel’s enemy, Sisera. Sisera was the commanding officer of the Canaanite army.
Barak told Deborah he would only go if Deborah went with him. Deborah agrees to go but warns Barak that because of his doubt in God’s plan, the credit for the battle would go to a woman. This is later fulfilled when a woman named Jael kills Sisera with a tent peg while Sisera hides in her tent.
