This Excel spreadsheet serves as a visual guide to paying off debt. The formulas used are minimal, primarily in the column labeled "Balance of total debts." The other formulas are not locked into this style of spreadsheet because everyone's individual debts and minimum payments will vary. Ideally, it can be used as a template for students to create their own theoretical debt snowball. It is also helpful when showing students the effect of paying even a small amount of money beyond the minimum payment towards debt can shorten the total amount of time in debt (and interest accrued-though not demonstrated in this sheet). This process focuses on initial debt balances, not interest rates.
