History is much more than our textbooks can cover, right? Searching the internet is a key skill, we all know this. Let's combine these two sentiments with my "Decades Day" a great 1-off, or sub plan, for Middle School or High School Social Studies class. Students are assigned a decade of history. They get to free form search, or use sites you suggest, to read about impactful events, rank them, and reflect on how they changed history.
There is a table to complete, a ranking to be given and defended. New update: Students also must write a 2 paragraph reflection summarizing what they learned and how this event changed history.
This resource is most valuable, when combined with students teaching each other about the most interesting information they learned from their research - there's no better way to learn and reinforce learning than by teaching others.
