Product Description
December Reading Prompts & Journal- CCSS Aligned
These prompts are cute, colorful, and motivating! They are winter themed to keep them holiday neutral! The journal helps keep the days organized and the students love to color the adorable cover! Prompts are provided in both color and black and white.

These reading prompts were designed to have students write after independently reading. This is used as a part of Balanced Literacy, but can also be used after any independent or guided reading. The prompts are all Common Core Aligned so they provide a quick assessment for many standards.

How I use this in my classroom:
In balanced literacy students independently read and then write in a journal (2nd grade and up). I have my 1st graders practice writing with these prompts after an independent reading block. It is a quick write, about 5 minutes, to get them familiar with writing after reading! It also gives them a purpose or a task for reading. They love acting like the “older kids”.

I hope you find this as useful as I have!

Enjoy!
