Updated 11-18-13: Celebrate December with 28 writing prompts with 3 bonus editable pages. This unit makes for a good packet for Christmas/Winter Break homework. Embedded throughout the unit, you will find facts and snippets of informational text.

This is a print and go! No fuss! No fluff! Time saving unit! Technology is incorporated. To find the prompt desired all you need to do is click the title in the table of contents. I also have a hyperlink in the table of contents to the 3 pages which are editable. These three editable pages are at the end of the document--- no scrolling needed. Pretty cool right!

If desired print front to back. Each prompt has a second page which is not necessary however, provided for those who write more.

Super cute cover page for a packet is included.

There are three pages which are editable. Each has a frame, border, and lines to write on. These "editable" pages do not have any other graphics. The font is embedded and you will be unable to adjust any graphics.


W.1.1 Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or name the book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure.

W.1.2 Write informative/explanatory texts in which they name a topic, supply some facts about the topic, and provide some sense of closure.

W.1.3 Write narratives in which they recount two or more appropriately sequenced events, include some details regarding what happened, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide some sense of closure.

W.1.8 With guidance and support from adults, recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question.

W.2.1 Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.

W.2.2 Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section.

W.2.3 Write narratives in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.

W.2.8 Recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question.

W.3.1 Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons.

W.3.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.

W.3.3 Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.

W.3.8 Recall information from experiences or gather information from print and digital sources; take brief notes on sources and sort evidence into provided categories
