An excellent cooperative learning project that engages students critical thinking as they analyze advertisements for deceptiveness and then create their own. There are a variety of modifications that can be made to this project. For example, just this past year, I required my students only to complete two of the three types of advertising, but one had to be deceptive and one was not. This created another new opportunity for discussion during student presentations.
I used this in my Business Math class and the end of a consumer goods unit. This could also be used in a marketing class or even a statistics class.
Included in this project pack:
-Types of Deceptive Advertisement (gives specific examples of different types of deception used in advertising and asks students to identify commercials that use them)
-Project Direction Sheet
-Grading Sheet and Rubrics (I left the grading table blank, which allows you more freedom to decide how much each section is worth)
-Project Sheet (Allows students to brainstorm by answering probing questions)
-Individual Reflection and Group Evaluation sheet (Allows students to reflect on the project and rate their group members and themselves!)
