This lesson is based off the 5 different voice volumes from the book Decibella and Her 6-inch Voice written by Julia Cook. You do not necessarily need the book to give the voice lesson, but it is a great tool. It can be purchased from amazon.com or BoysTownPress.org.
Voice Scale Visual
Situational Voice Matching Activity – Level 1
Situational Voice Matching Activity – Level 2
Table Discussion Cards (18 total)
Lesson Topic: Pragmatic skills – Voice Volume
Lesson Grades: K-8
Lesson Ideas: When using the activity, first read the book together. I have all of the students practice using the different voices throughout the book. I even let them be extra loud when using their “outside” voice! Or have a megaphone to help amplify their voices if they need it. I laminated the visual voice volume scale and point to each one as we learn about it. After the students have practiced altering their voice, you can use either the Level 1 or Level 2 follow-up activity. The Table Discussion Cards can also easily be added as an extra activity. You can print on cardstock and laminate so you can use over and over.
You will have to print in black and white if you want a black/white version.
