Product Description

Turn a review lesson on decimal computation and comparing/ordering into a fun and engaging hands on activity. Use these four decimal activities during the month of October to provide your students with decimal practice and review with creating problems using the operation of their choice and comparing/ordering decimals. Add these partner activities to a math center for early finishers.

The five sets of Halloween themed decimal spinners are differentiated with different levels of difficulty.

Spinner sets include:

♦ tenths

♦ hundredths

♦ thousandths

♦ tenths, hundredths

♦ tenths, hundredths, thousandths

Students can choose the level of complexity based on their readiness levels. The values on the spinners are written in word form. There also is a blank set of spinners that students can use to create their own spinners.

Spin It: Students use one set of spinners to create problems using the operation of their choice. In this activity, both students are solving the same equation for each round. A recording sheet is included. There is a work mat for players to build each decimal and solve the problem using manipulatives when adding/subtracting decimals if scaffolding is needed.

Spin It High Score: Students use one set of spinners to create problems using the operation of their choice. In this activity, students will be using different equations. Students then compare their answers to see who has the greatest answer. A recording sheet is included. There is a work mat for players to build each decimal and solve the problem using manipulatives when adding/subtracting decimals if scaffolding is needed.

Spin It High/Low: Students use a set of spinners to compare decimals. Students read the values and record the value of each spin on one recording sheet. Students then compare the decimals looking for either the greatest value (high) or smallest value (low) based on the target for that round. There is a work mat for players to build each decimal using manipulatives when comparing decimals if scaffolding is needed.

Spin It to Order: Students each use a separate set of spinners to order decimals. Students read the values and record the values on one recording sheet. Students then order the decimals from least to greatest. There is a work mat for students to build each decimal using manipulatives when ordering decimals if scaffolding is needed.

Note: Decimal manipulatives such as place value blocks or place value disks can be used to support learners.
