Learning about decimal numbers is so much easier when they are connected to topics like fractions, money and place value that students already know!
This decimal introduction activity makes these connections for your students. I have included large decimal, fraction, place value and money cards for full group as well as individual materials to help students to see the connection between decimal numbers, fractions and money.
This resource includes:
⭐Place Value, Decimal, Fraction & Money Matrix ⭐
These pages include cards to use as a full class to create a matrix including coins & bills, decimals, fraction, place value, and money in written form. I personally like to do this activity by putting magnets on the back of each card and having students lay out the cards in a given category one at a time on a large white board. I may start with something very familiar like place value names and then move to straight decimal number or another familiar topic.
⭐ Student decimal, money, fraction and visual representation cards.⭐
These pages can be printed on colored paper to create individual student decks. These decks of cards allow students to order decimal numbers, money amounts, visual decimal representations and fractions with varying amounts of tenths and to lay the cards out in order and to match up equal values between the different forms.
⭐ Directions to games that can be played with 1-2 students using the student decks. Games include memory, a sort, war and decimal addition. ⭐
