Decimal Place Value - Fact or Fib Showdown
Students will analyze statements that include common errors involving place value, expanded notation, comparing decimals, and rounding by analyzing and determine whether provided statements are facts or fibs.
This file includes a Powerpoint with 10 fact or fib statements involving decimal place value. Each slide includes answers to be revealed for clarification in the classroom.
1. Have students first THINK only about whether the statement shown is a fact or a fib.
2. Call out the word “Showdown” indicating students to slap down their response and discuss with a partner or group.
3. Prompt students to discuss their answers. If students believe that the answer is FACT, they are to justify their response. If students believe the answer is FIB, they can dicuss what they would change in the statement to make the statement a FACT.
4. Randomly select a student to share out what was discussed.
