This is a great activity for addition and subtraction of decimals! You are giving the student a budget of $1000 to spend on three items from any store. They have to calculate how much money they have left after each item by subtraction. Addition comes in at the beginning because they need to verify that all items added together are less than their budget. You can look up items beforehand, pass out store circulars, or have the students look up the prices themselves. It reinforces financial literacy, as well! Plus, the kids LOVE this because it relates the content to their interests!
