Here at the Bryar Patch, I know bringing real life examples and engaging activities into the classroom are important. In this resource there are a few activities that the students can do to show their mastery of operations with decimals. There are two different "Checking it Out" sheets where the students will perform addition and subtraction problems (sometimes multiplication before adding or subtracting) as they keep up with their money on the balance sheet. Next, the students have a price sheet list and then shopping lists and they have to search for the items on the shopping lists and then find the total cost for each list. Another activity in the resource is where students solve two decimal operations problems and explain their work and how they know their answers are correct. Another activity is a QR Code Hunt where the students scan and solve the problems, then look for the answer on the sheet of QR codes. They start at #1 and then will try to find the answer to that one, which will be #2. They will continue until they have completed all problems and found the answers.
An answer key is provided for each of the activities.
The activities are versatile, they can be done for acceleration or enrichment depending on your need. They can all be completed during the unit on decimal operations or used through the year. Each activity is separate from the others, so they don't have to be done in any order. Let me know if you have any questions about the resource and I will gladly answer them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
