The following three Decimal and Fraction Multiplying Action Organizers 1-3 challenge the students on the following math common core concept: 5.NF.3: Interpret a fraction as division of the numerator by the denominator
(a/b = a ÷ b). These organizers contain three columns and ask students to compare what occurs when you multiply decimals and their equivalent fractions. The students, after using the third column to compare products, realize that they will receive equivalent products written in different forms. Since this is an introduction into this complex concept, there are no word problems yet; however, there are extension problems and an increase in the problem complexity as you proceed through the next two organizers. Be sure to let them conclude on their own that the decimals and the fractions are the same. Enjoy!
