Decimals can be really abstract and... yawn... boring. But not with this packet. Not only does it show students how decimals can be used in real life, but it also gets them thinking about real world problems.
Lesson 1 introduces students to decimals and relates them to the population of the continents. Lesson 2 has students looking at the world hunger problem with decimals. Then students must shop on the average pay of someone who lives in Malawi, Africa. The last lesson is my favorite-- students survey their class about their pets and then must compare their data with the United States average.
