Lesson 1 – Four Kinds of Decision Makers Learning Targets includes:
Students will learn about the four kinds of decision makers.
Students will learn this, by participating in a discussion and identifying their decision making characteristics.
Students will be assessed by their participation and a written summary.
The Decision Making Unit is best used as an extension of the Techniques of NO Unit; it is that next step where the students apply their learned skill set of communicating while making decisions. We make decisions every day; some big, some small, some consequential. In the Decision Making Unit, students learn the characteristics of the four types of decision makers; they also have an opportunity to review these traits and identify which ones they use while making their decisions. The students use this knowledge to analyze a series of bad decisions from beginning to the disastrous end and determine after every decision whether the decision maker was Naive, Wise, a Scorner or Foolish in their thinking, and excuses. The students will then formulate their perfect question that will be a filter to evaluate every opportunity, every date, every invitation, and everything they are asked to be a part of. This question is to be a higher standard than, “is this the right thing to do? Is this the ethical thing to do? Is this the legal thing to do?” It is to be a question that will enable them to see through their wants, desires and the excuses they use to convince themselves what they want to do will work out just fine. I know what I’m doing. Nothing is going to happen etc.
The Complete Decision Making Unit contains 4 Lessons and a variety of supplemental materials. All lessons meet the National Health Standard and have clearly defined Daily Learning Targets/Objectives. Each lesson can be used for grades 7-12 and Homeschoolers. The Unit is designed to take 4 days to complete (Classes are 55 minutes). The unit includes 4 Lesson Plans, Student Worksheets, Teacher Answers, and teacher and student resources.
