Using rubrics as a tool to establish criteria, to identify consistency, and to assess performance is essential in this age of standards; therefore, we have developed a rubric specifically for our Decision Making Curriculum, grades three, four, and five. Our Decision Making rubric identifies the following categories to assist you in your evaluation:
Defining the problem, gathering information, generating alternatives, considering consequences, and making decisions.
The five-point scoring criteria makes it easy to create total scores and to base the scores on individual school performance standards. In addition, the rubric fits well within Common Core writing principles as it is based on problem identification, evaluation of evidence, and the development of logical, defensible solutions. Further, our decision making rubric helps identify those students who are progressing in development of critical thinking skills and those students who need further study.
