I needed an ice breaker activity to use with my students and I didn’t want to involve food so I figured using a deck of cards would turn asking questions into a fun activity. I put the shuffled deck of card in the middle of the table and had the students pick a card. I laminated the paper and passed it around so when it was a students turn they would read the question and answer it. You can also use this with students who cant read as long as you read to them. For older students I had them write down a fact that they learned about each student in the group. If you are working with only one student you can answer the questions as well and have the student write down several facts they learned about you. You can change the questions also – if it’s the beginning of the school year you might want to say ‘share something you did over the summer’ instead of ‘what did you do over the weekend.’ This is just something to get you started. If you want to work on more language for some of the questions you can ask the students why, such as why is summer their favorite season. Hope it is helpful!
