This lesson will give your students insight into one of the most important documents in American history: the Declaration of Independence.
Students begin with a vocabulary lesson that includes definitions, a crossword, and a quiz. They will then explore basic information (who wrote it, who signed it, its purpose, etc.) using a web activity. A gallery walk where students fill the blanks with synonyms will help simplify the meaning of the document. This is followed by an awesome political cartoon analysis and two of my most popular Prove It! primary source analysis handouts. A social media activity will assess your students understanding of the document. Finally an overall summary reading, with questions, for review what your students have learned.
