Looking for a complete unit to help students understand the events that led to the independence of the United States? My standards-based Road to the American Revolution unit contains everything you need to engage your students in critical thinking as they determine the motivations and analyze the actions of King George III and the colonists. The unit begins with a refresher on the Age of Exploration and the initial purpose of the British colonies and it ends with a look at the highlights and heroes of the Revolutionary War.

You can evaluate my work by downloading a free DBQ here:

Each unit was written with the understanding that teachers already have resources and textbooks at their disposal. The workstation days in my Suggested Pacing were designed to allow time for your current resources, and I included some suggestions as well. If you are new to teaching, these are the perfect resources for you! There are several pages of tips and embedded PD throughout the units.

Check out the Suggested Pacing guide in the previews! You will find objectives, essential questions, vocabulary, and possible assessments for the unit. Please note that all resources (with the exception of the backwards planning templates) are in PDF format.

If you are a 4th grade teacher in Louisiana, my Governing a New Nation unit is aligned to the Scope and Sequence found on Louisiana Believes and contains all three topics.
