This activity provides an outline for students to write a "break up letter" to King George - a modern-day version of the Declaration of Independence. Students can complete this activity as an assessment/way of demonstrating a clear understanding of the purpose of the Declaration.
The first worksheet is broken down into four parts - a preamble, declaration of natural rights, list of complaints, and resolution of independence - and directions for how to write that in today's language. Students enjoy the chance to combine what they're learned about the Declaration of Independence with their own voice. There is a rubric included.
A "final draft" sheet with rubric is also included so all you have to do is print!
