This is one of my favorite assignments of the year! Included in this file is a breakup letter that gets it started. . I tell the students I found it after class and proceed to read it. The letter included in this file is a "modern" version of the Declaration of Independence. It is an introduction to my lesson about the DoI. From there I present the students will fill-in-the-blank notes where I explain some history of the DoI and where Thomas Jefferson received inspiration from as he wrote the document. The students also have about 10 questions that checks their understanding of the notes. Lastly I provide them with a template that they will use to write their own modern day break up letter with King George III and Great Britain. I have provided a blank set of notes that you can print off and reproduce as well as notes with the words filled in. I have also provided an answer key for the worksheets. A total of 8 pages is included in this ready made lesson that you can use year after year. Enjoy!
