Use these 24 Declaration of Independence task cards to get students thinking critically about the purpose, tone, and structure of the Declaration. Students will analyze Thomas Jefferson's use of rhetorical devices, syntax and word choice to dig deeper into the Declaration.
This download contains 24 task cards (four to a page). Each task card contains an image, open-ended prompt or question, and cut lines. The cards are available in both color and black and white.
Because the questions are open-ended and analytical, and because there are no true right or wrong answers, an answer key is not provided. Students are encouraged to support their answers with specific examples from the text.
