Declaration of Independence:

This lesson is part of a bundle. Click here to save $5 on 10 of my lessons

I have two lessons on the Declaration of Independence. This one is more focused on the text of the document itself and is ideal for Civics and Government classes. If you are looking for more of a historical overview for U.S. history classes, check out my other one.

This lesson teaches the drafting of the Declaration of Independence with an emphasis on the "natural rights," "role of government," and the complaints of this famous document. The students will break down the text into its various sections and analyze the meaning of these important words and ideas. The students will be provided with an in-depth analysis of the text, sections, ideas, and purposes of the Declaration.

Included in this lesson is:

• A completed lesson plan with step-by-step instructions containing multiple activities with a focus on differentiated instruction
• A PowerPoint presentation
• A Smartboard Activity with a paper copy for those w/o a smartboard
• A learning packet
• A Cooperative learning activity
• A practice State-Exam
• And Video Links

Mr. Raymond’s Civics E.O.C. Academy was designed for students taking the Florida Civics End-of-Course (EOC) Exam. However, as many states are implementing Civics Exams, these videos will work for all students of Civics, US Government, and US History. Currently students have to pass a civics state exam in order to graduate in Idaho, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Arizona, North Dakota, Louisiana, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Utah – as well as state social studies tests such as Texas’ STAAR exam, as well as Virginia’s Civics SOL exam. These videos look at all of the civics benchmarks that will be tested on most state civics exams.
