The Declaration of Independence is one of the most important documents in American History, but teaching it correctly and in an engaging manner can be tough.
This four-lesson unit is designed to give students a basic working knowledge of the declaration as well as developing their interpretation and comparison skills. It addresses several CCSS Standards at multiple grade levels, and can be broken apart to fit easily into any curriculum plan. It includes;
- an introductory PowerPoint, a set of guided notes for historical background.
- the ever popular “Break-Up Letter” lesson to place the declaration in a student-centered context
- a step-by-step document analysis activity that will help students to comprehend the important phrases and meanings of the document.
This is a great unit developed after years of use in the classroom, and it will work for your students as well!
