Product Description
What follows is a “breakup letter” written in the style of the Declaration of Independence and signed by the 13 colonies.

This is a great introduction to a lesson on the Declaration of Independence. I usually write the letter out on binder paper and fold it up for added authenticity. Then, on the first day of lessons related to the Declaration, I tell students that I “found” this letter and just might read it out loud so this person knows not to pass notes in my class. Students are always eager to hear what the letter says, and are dying to know who signed it!

Note that I have included the abbreviated “mfeo,” which stands for “made for each other,” which I pretend not to know the meaning of so they have to help me decode the letter a bit.
