Decodable Books to Support the Science of Reading-Set 1-CVC

This is a set of 5 decodable books that are perfect for students who are just learning how to blend CVC words. These books are professionally illustrated in black & white as well as in color. They are easy to print and use right away. You can use these books for small group instruction, whole class, home-learning, or as home reading books. They are easy to print and put together and require no cutting. In addition, one-page passage-style versions of the books are provided. Students will enjoy following along with the characters who appear throughout the entire series.

Students who are just learning how to read benefit from reading decodable texts. The purpose of decodable texts is to present students with texts that they are capable of decoding because they are presented only with the letter-sound combinations that they have been explicitly taught. This allows students to focus on the words on the page instead of relying on picture clues or guessing in order to read the text.

By slowly scaffolding your students’ exposure to the new letters and new high-frequency words, students will truly be able to decode the majority of each book.

These books support the Science of Reading and a systematic approach to teaching phonics. Your students will enjoy the story lines and the characters, some of which return in later books.

Included in this set are 5 decodable readers that are appropriate for students who are at the beginning of their alphabetic knowledge. In order to read all 5 of these books, students will only need to know the following letters: m, a, s, p, t, n, c, b, i

New letters and words introduced (each book contains previous letters plus the new ones as noted:

Book 1: Tam: m, a, s, p, t (no high-frequency words)

Book 2: Pat: review (no high-frequency words)

Book 3: Sam: n, c (on, a)

Book 4: Tam Can Pass: review (see)

Book 5: Pam: b, i (I, has, the)

The majority of the words in the books are CVC words.

They will be introduced to the following high-frequency words: on, a, see, I, has, & the.

Each book builds upon the skills and letters presented in the previous books.
