Description

This is a set of 5 decodable books that are perfect for students who are just learning how to blend CVC words. These books are offered in black & white as well as in color. They are easy to print and use right away. You can use these books for small group instruction, whole class, home-learning, or as home reading books. They are easy to print and put together and require no cutting. They are available in 2 different levels so that you can differentiate your teaching. In addition, one-page passage-style versions of the books are provided. *This is an update to the original file*

Students who are just learning how to read benefit from reading decodable texts. The purpose of decodable texts is to present students with texts that they are capable of decoding because they are presented only with the letter-sound combinations that they have been explicitly taught. This allows students to focus on the words on the page instead of relying on picture clues or guessing in order to read the text.

By slowly scaffolding your students’ exposure to the new letters and new high-frequency words, students will truly be able to decode the majority of each book.

These books support the Science of Reading and a systematic approach to teaching phonics.

Included in this set are 5 decodable readers that are appropriate for students who are developing their alphabetic knowledge. In order to read all 5 of these books, students will need to know the following letters: m, a, s, p, t, n, c, b, I (introduced in Set 1) as well as the ones introduced in this set: f, o, h, d, r

New letters and words introduced (each book contains previous letters introduced in the prior Book Set, plus the new ones as noted:

Set 1 introduced m, a, s, p, t, n, c, b, i

Set 2 books- Titles, new letters, and new high-frequency words:

Book 6: Tab and Pam: f (and, is)

Book 7: Pat Sips: review of letters (review of high-frequency words)

Book 8: The Hot Ham: o, h (of, from)

Book 9: Dot Can Pass: d (will, have)

Book 10: Pam: r (by)

The majority of the words in the books are CVC words.

They will be introduced to the following high-frequency words in Set 2: and, is, of, from, will, have, & by

In addition, some books will contain some of the words introduced in Set 1: on, a, see, I, has, & the.

Each book builds upon the skills and letters presented in the previous books.
