PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This story supplements a reading lesson using the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching reading. "A Day in the Park" is an original, controlled-reading passage for skill practice of the "ay" spelling option for /ā/. Use this decodable story at the end of lesson to practice oral reading fluency. The story provides much practice for "ay" and is suitable for older elementary students. To use as an assessment, have students highlight the words that have "ay" spelling.

This passage was developed for an O-G lesson which follows Dorothy Whitehead's scope and sequence for teaching reading. Key sounds required for mastery before reading this passage: a few VERY basic sight words, magic-e syllables, "-ck" & "-tch" spelling generalizations, r-controlled syllables, and "ai" spelling of /ā/. Look for soon-to-be-uploaded products, including more original controlled-reading selections, reading word cards, O-G lesson plans, O-G lesson activities, and O-G lesson planning templates.
