Extraordinary educators deliver instruction at the appropriate level of Blooms. We are allotted a few days in the academic calendar to teach a certain TEK. It is important to pay attention to the verb in the TEK and align it to the appropriate level of Blooms.
Our students can grow and have success only if we equip them for success. If the verb in the TEK is “differentiate” we should not start with Blooms-Remembering. We should start with Blooms-Analyzing.
However, due to gaps and varying abilities, it is possible to start a new unit at a lower level of Blooms. Just know that you can not stay there. You must take the kids on to the appropriate level if you want them to be successful in class and on state assessments.
Also note that some TEKS have more than one verb, and therefore will have more than one Blooms to which to accompany.
Use pages 6-9 to match the verb(s) in each TEK with Blooms Taxonomy. You will need a copy of the STAAR Science Objectives, which can be found on the TEA website.
Once you complete this exercise, you will always have this as a reference. Isn’t that awesome.
Now, go be extraordinary!
