This strategy pack features five decoding strategies. For each decoding strategy, it contains a lesson, large classroom poster (8 x 11), individual student mini-posters (3 x 3.5), and a parent letter. As well, it includes a decoding strategy bookmark.
I have found that taping the mini-posters, in my students’ reading folders, makes a significant difference in supporting them to remember and use their strategies when they are reading at home. As well, the parent letters introduce and explain each strategy so that parents can help their child at home!
The lessons are based on specific mentor texts. These lessons could be used with any texts, but having the mentor texts would be easiest as some of the lessons reference specific words or sentences within the texts.
