PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This document demonstrates the Make 10 strategy. It can be used whenever the sum is more than 10. It's easiest to understand if one of the addends is 8 or 9. This example uses the addends 8 and 4.

Make Ten is a key strategy for any addition facts with an 8 or a 9. They goal is for students to think “How many more are needed to make 10?” and then “How many are left over?”

For example: 8 + 4 = ?
How many more are needed for 8 to make 10? 2!
If the 2 is taken from the 4, how many are left over? 2!
So, 8 + 4 is 10 + 2, or 12.
