Decomposing Numbers using Clip Its
Directions: Copy on card stock and laminate. Cut on lines and store in Ziplocs. Have students clip a clothes pin, use a dry erase marker or place a unifix cube on the matching number for each group of tens and extra ones. This a fun activity to introduce decomposing numbers and reinforces the concept that the two digits of a two digit number represent amounts of tens and ones. For self checking put a dot on the back of the clip it on the correct answer.
Practice sheets included. Have students build the numbers with unifix cubes as they complete their practice sheets this will give them the concrete understanding of groups of tens and ones.
Great for individual work, at a center or with a partner.
