These PowerPoint notes introduce the idea of decomposing shapes in order to find their area.
They help students to see how separating a shape into smaller, easier to work with units can allow them to find the total area by finding the area of the smaller shapes they've created.
The notes are designed for students to write down themselves into a notebook, interactive notebook, or used to introduce a topic or at the end of a lesson to summarize the concepts.
This file can be uploaded to Google Classroom as a Google Slides document and viewed on "Present" mode if you would like students to use this individually or even at home for front-loading a lesson.
The 17 slides are designed to present the information a bit at a time. They are not 17 unique slides, but rather use animation to add information a piece at a time so that teachers can present the information without overwhelming the students with too much, too quickly.
