I use a lot of demonstrations and labs in my classes. While my students enjoyed them, they struggled to relate the demonstrations and labs to the content. I found it extremely frustrating because it seemed so obvious to me. The labs always related directly to the content that we were covering. In addition, my students HATED writing formal lab reports which they were required to do several times a year. After much experimentation, I finally found a solution to both problems that is so simple it’s hard to believe. You can use the lab procedures that you already have and just apply this technique when introducing the labs!
