I created this vocabulary graphic organizer after reading an article about best practices for vocabulary retention in upper elementary and middle school students. The author suggested that students create a “key word” to help them form a connection to the word. He then suggested that they draw a picture of the key word interacting with the actual meaning of the word. The key word is mean to be written inside the key. I also included a section for students to create their own vocabulary sentences using context clues. They may specify the type of context clue they used (synonym, antonym, definition, inference, or restatement) beside each sentence. Enjoy this resource!
