Thank you for taking part in this Kindness Challenge! This file includes an advent calendar of kindness challenges to help your students understand the nature of giving during the holiday season.
This resource is not religious, and does not mention Christmas or any specific holiday. It is intended for use during the month of December, and supports the general theme of showing love and kindness to others.
*NOTE* You will need to download the FREE font, "KG Tangled Up In You 2" here
. Without this font, the file WILL work, but the alignment may be off (and it won't be as pretty :) The file does NOT display properly in Google Slides-- you will need to use Powerpoint for proper functionality!
How to use:
The included file contains an Advent calendar for December. You may click on any of the numbers to be brought directly to a kindness challenge. (I have not included kindness challenges for the weekends). If, for any reason, you feel that the challenge that is linked would not be appropriate for your class, I have also included 3 alternate challenges, along with a blank/editable slide so that you can create a challenge suitable for your students. (You also have the option of going to any slide to repeat a prior challenge!)
Before beginning this activity:
I like to begin the challenge by speaking to the class about the various holidays that take place in December, and the common theme of giving to others. We then discuss the many ways in which we can give: we can give time, we can give love, we can give kindness. I explain that much like many students have a chocolate advent calendar at home, we will be doing an advent calendar at school-- but instead of chocolate inside, we will receive a class challenge!
After clicking on the first challenge, we brainstorm what the challenge means to us and how we might implement it. Lastly, when I next see the class, we discuss the previous day's challenge: did they do the challenge? How do they think the person felt? How did it make them feel to do this act of kindness? Finally, we click to reveal the new challenge for the day.
I hope this challenge helps your class to spread love and kindness this holiday season!
