Defining a target market by collecting its demographics reduces the guesswork many entrepreneurs face when defining a business venture. Clearly defining the target market is the foundation to creating focused and effective marketing. Knowing who the customer is can also tell a business owner where to place the advertising message so the target market sees it and acts upon it.
