Hello! Thank you for looking at Defining Vocabulary in Context – Winter Theme – Say ‘Hooray’ for a ‘Snow Day’ story.
This lesson was designed for students to define or illustrate higher level of sophistication vocabulary when they read or are read short paragraphs containing descriptive adjectives and vocabulary. There are 20 paragraphs in this lesson containing one word each for the students to provide a written or drawn definition. There is one teaching poster also included. The teacher should initially say the target word and have the group repeat it.
The students are required to determine the meaning of the vocabulary when it is within a short paragraph that the word is directly defined in.
You can have your students use the worksheets as full pages, or cut out the boxes to create a mini-book. Even my older students enjoy completing the mini-book containing the new vocabulary. Students are then required to choose one of the four words on the page to write a sentence with containing the newly learned word.
Parent note and teaching poster are included in this lesson.
**************For this lesson, I additionally included a larger print copy of the story, as some of my student like a written copy to follow along with and highlight context clues. These pages were not included in the price of the product. Please only print these pages, if you decide to use them! ***************
