This video is the first part in a series of two videos, which fall under a much larger package you can purchase in which you have access to lesson plans and corresponding videos that demo each lesson to help you implement it effectively. The videos are meant to serve as professional development or a way to "coach yourself." This particular video demonstrates a lesson in which the teacher reviews the concept of dividing whole numbers in order to move (in a later video) to dividing fractions by fractions. The students range in age from 3rd grade to 5th grade. As you will quickly notice, the teacher has created a mathematics community in which students are regularly reasoning at high levels, defending their thinking, and grappling with rich mathematics. Teachers who are serious about their practice and desire to teach for deep understanding in mathematics should watch the video and study the corresponding lesson plan (available for purchase) and leverage both the demo video and lesson plan to improve their practice as they implement the lessons in their classrooms.
