Product Description
There are SIX exercises focusing on connotation and denotation that increase in difficulty. The skill focus is on how words affect readers and how word choice is important in understanding the author's purpose. There is no answer key as most prompts are open-responses and students are encouraged to use a dictionary and/or thesaurus. If you feel you could use one, please email me and I will happily provide suggested answers. I use these activities as do nows, closure activities and homework. It can be completed independently or collaboratively, therefore this is a versatile assignment that demonstrates a student's growing awareness of how specific words build meaning.
