This middle school activity is designed to be used with Flinn Scientific's "Heat Convection in Fluids—Demonstration Kit". However, if you have Erlenmeyer flasks, rubber stopper with holes, and glass tubing, you have what you need to easily make it yourself. Students are lead through the process of creating creating convection currents using hot water, cold water, and food dye. They are able to observe the hot water rise and the cold water sink.
