In this lab, you need density blocks purchased from a catalog (Frey).
Students will first measure mass and volume, calculate density, and using the table, use density as a "characteristic property" to identify the unknown samples. Students will also compare the density of the block to water to make predictions as to whether it will sink or float.
Main topics include: mass, volume, density, characteristic property.
A fun lab and students enjoy feeling the differences in mass of the identical sized blocks.
