This is a lab that I use to help review the concepts of density, mass, and volume. It is a good review for the NYS Science Assessment. It is set up to be used as centers. Center 1 - Volume, Center 2 - Mass, Center 3 is Density, Center 4 - Student make a prediction about whether the block will sink or float based on the density that they calculated and then they actually see if the block sinks or floats There is a section that allows them to compare what their prediction was to what the block actually did, sink or float. If they were wrong, they must provide information as to why they were wrong. (Miscalculation etc.) A great hands on activity!!
You will also need: A triple beam balance, density or buoyancy blocks, metric rulers, calculators, and containers with water.
