This product contains four one-day, hands-on activities that are easy to set up and that will help your students to grasp concepts related to the density of liquids. Concepts include buoyancy of a solid object in a liquid (why objects float or sink), changing the density of a liquid by changing the solute content and by changing the temperature, and how liquids layer based on their relative densities.
The activities include:
1. a floating/sinking challenge lab in which students create an object that neither floats nor sinks in a column of water
2. an easy set-up/clean-up but effective density tube activity during which students calculate the density of three liquids and construct a density tube with those liquids plus four small solid objects
3. a 4-station activity on changing the density of liquids by adding solute or changing the temperature, the concept of viscosity, and a review of the density tube
4. a Cartesian Diver lab for discussing Archimedes' Principle
