Students conduct an initial investigation to observe what happens when liquids of different densities are slowly poured into a clear cup (cooking oil and water). Then they construct a hypothesize to explain what will happen to the densest liquid poured into a cup. Finally, students conduct a density investigation using cooking oil and salt water and explain the evidence (observations) from the investigation that supports or refutes their hypothesis.
