Included in this lesson is a SMART notebook presentation and a worksheet for the oil and water lab. Students will find the density of oil and water, mix the two together, and observe what happens. They will also have different materials to pick from (kitty litter, sawdust, diapers, cotton balls, etc) and see which one absorbs the most oil from the surface of the beaker. Relate this lesson to the Gulf Coast oil spill and discuss real world applications!
