This Depth and Complexity: Across Disciplines unit
focuses on integrating topics.
This is part of a bundle that you can find here: Depth and Complexity Bundle
Taking a topic and looking at it through the lens of another subject is a higher level thinking skill that, with practice, our students can master. Through the use of this icon, students will be able to link relationships amongst various topics.
It is nearly impossible to find a discipline that is exclusive in and of itself. Everything we do and learn is linked to something else.
The wonderful thing about the across disciplines icon is that it allows us to integrate subjects to make learning broader and deeper for students. As teachers, integration allows us to maximize our students’ learning time, provide flow and consistency throughout the day, and reduce the prep time for ourselves.
The Depth and Complexity icons were created by Sandra Kaplan and Bette Gould. The implementation of these icons allows differentiated learning where students can delve deeper and think more complexly about topics. Through the use of these icons, students can master topics. It is important to note that Depth and Complexity is not just for your higher level thinkers, but for all of your students.
